You decide...
IF TWL does decide to support this "ET Revival", what would you want to play?
LEAGUE or LADDER?
Discuss.

IMO:
Start a ladder right away. Like, tomorrow. Get buzz and have teams put together their line-ups, play a few matches, then once we have a few active teams, with soild line-ups, then start a league.

Start a Ladder, allow some time for the word to spread and teams to be formed. -> Then keep the ladders running and start a league when the time is right, teams have shown commitment, and the format is perfect.

I would recommend putting together a ladder because if we were to start off with a league then we might not get enough teams or if we do the teams might not be stable active or so, and a league would only last about 2 months or so. If we start off with a ladder then you can form a team with unlimited time and slowly get teams with proper activation and stable lineups, etc and a ladder would continue forever until i don't know like when it dies or so where a league would be just 2 months and you only have a chance to register your team in a certain amount of time where in ladder you can sign up anytime, so therefore I would prefer a ladder first including like 3on3/5on5 and then moving on to a league after there are enough teams in the ladder for a league to be formed..
+1 to me if you agree

i feel like ladders have failed (in tiny game communities, et) since games are not on a specific day.. and lots of noshows, hard to field players
start with a 3v3 tourney perhaps, same day every week, sunday nights? that may work better than a ladder imo.

I think a tourney is the best way to get interest and see where teams stand.
For a seasoned game such as ET, starting a ladder will not be of much benefit as typically many matches get forfeited or not played at all since teams don't care much about it.
Having a tourney will give us the time to get teams ready for a league. We can gauge how many teams will be active in playing. The tourney needs to be double elimination though as teams that lost first round may just go away if they don't get to play another round.

a- 3v3 is lame. b- any type of tourney will fail miserably c- a league will do nothing but make forfeits, and no shows.
have we learned nothing? we've tried this a million times in the past 2-3 years and it's nothing but fail over and over. A ladder will generate interest and give a clear idea of how many people there are in reality who play this game. Make sure we have good admins who know how to play this game, not nut hugging no namers, and use current cfgs from euroland so there isn't a convoluted ruleset. If all of this is successful and we have 10+ active teams, than start a league. By league, i don't mean that god awful sta site, i mean on here where we can track aliases ect.

Start a ladder and see where it goes.
3v3 will do absolutely nothing.
Either 5v5 or 6v6.

I think the difference between the past 2 or 3 years is that the game was already dead and players had moved onto other games and were awaiting new games. I think now many feel jaded over all the new games and there is interest amongst the old players who looked forward to new games and were utterly disappointed to come back to a game they loved and realize no new game can surpass now.

Ladders are a lot more maintenance team/captain wise though, in that you have to organize a group of people for a (possibly) different day and time every week, which can kill things pretty fast if there isn't a large pool to pick from. Scheduling in ladders could send things to a quick death, instead of actually encouraging anything as it's meant to.
Anyone who's ever had to schedule a meeting with more than one person knows what I'm talking about. It turns into a constant chasing people around trying to nail down a time they're all available — a league would circumvent that, but not provide "proven"/stable teams with any kind of guarantee.
While I don't want any league to be scratched because of forfeits and no-shows, I also don't want to see a repeat of the RtCW ladders after the Mayan Apocalypse tourney (seeing something like 10-15 active teams snuff out in what felt like a single night).
If the main motivation for most of the teams is "I like this game, and want to frag with some old e-friends again", a league provides that in a predictable way, as opposed to trying to organize ladder matches, which can be a hassle.

while i agree that set times MIGHT work, its the flexibility of times on a ladder that would make it a better gauge to generate interest. It will also solve the forfeit issues. as long as there is a decent admin, killing matches and challenging other people will be a lot easier. As i previously stated i honestly think an irc channel is the best way to make all of this happen smoothly. if people can't use irc by now, there's bigger issues.

^ agreed.
There's no point in going through any of this trouble if people don't play. Get on irc, get on xfire, get your friends on vent, and play this game. A league won't make people magically decide to play. Go to #america.et on qnet and ask people for scrims.

PS:
bring new players to this game too ffs. Stop riding oldschoolers nutsacks, most of those guys don't even play videogames anymore. If you play another game casually or competitively, tell your friends to dl ET and show them what it's all about. Let's build a new and better community not filled with 15 year old cheating pricks.
