Selling his soul implies that he somehow betrayed his prior beliefs. Making more money available to the glorious private sector in order for them to do what they want with it was 100% in line with his earlier beliefs and ideals.
He believed in gold and silver being the only currency of any value. When he flooded the market with valueless paper money, he betrayed that belief and robbed us all.

If he believed in a gold standard he wouldn´t have had such loose monetary policy. Much like Allen, you´re twisting history around to fit your own narrative.

Hey look questor, more conspiracy theories:
http://www.zerohedge.com/article/bond-recoveries-or-chocolate-ivory-coast-issues-ultimatum-cocoa-export-ban-chocolate-prices-
The FT has just reported that Alassane Ouattara, Laurent Gbagbo's opponent in the presidential election (and the man formally acknowledged by the UN as the country's president) has just imposed a one-month export ban of cocoa, ostensibly in an attempt to oust Laurent Gbagbo. In other words, the international community has to choose: bond recoveries or chocolate. That said, we are certain that it is none other than noted commodity market cornering expert JPM that can claim league table advisory credit for what according to the FT will be a 10% jump in the price of cocoa on opening Monday.
Gosh darned conspiratorial speculators! I sure do hates them.

You guys realize the gold standard had nothing to do with full backing of US currency with gold (or silver)?

Just to be clear, are you actually saying that a gold standard is not when paper currency can be exchanged for gold at a fixed price?

Dammit...Cryptic tweets for the loss. I tweeted about this some months ago but because I try to get kutchy with my tweets I can't find it in spite of my search through the previous 9 months of tweets that I have made.
I still don't get why you think this is related to anything I have said.

I suspect that he's saying that the ability to exchange paper currency for gold is an attribute of what was the U.S. Gold Standard but wasn't the definition of it. It's a subtle difference, and really has no impact on the discussion.

take your logic all the way... why stop at gold and silver? congressional bribery has been a more steady investment than gold. hell some corporate stock has been. tears have been produced since our ancestors climbed out of the oceans...why not value them? btw....side note... i would use the tears of Lost Cause confederates to jerk off with, so i'm sure i'd never be rich. so maybe tears aren't a good idea. how about intellectual copyrights being the standard? nope...that's another shitty idea.

So he either legitimately changed his mind or he never really believed in the Gold Standard. Either way, he said one thing and did something else, so fuck him.
I suspect his mind was changed by money and/or power since he wrote Gold and Economic Freedom in the 60s which was in favor of a gold standard and against the concept of a central bank.

You keep referring to me and my "conspiracy theories" and buying into Aria´s BS about speculators causing the run up in commodities. This whole thread is about providing evidence that proves the run up has nothing to do with speculation, i.e. the opposite of what you and aria say.
