What are the most popular game types?

I prefer Domination, CTF, and King of the Hill.

Currently DOM is the preferred gametype for competitive play. I don't know of anyone who has scrimmed KOTH or CTF since open beta.

I believe CTF is the most dynamic and could be the most fun, but the spawning is currently messed up in that mode, making it somewhat unsuitable.

Domination 6 v 6

CTF spawns are broken.
KOTH is completely spawn based.

We've been playing by this ruleset:

I have an updated version of it that fixes a few things, but we haven't decided if we are using it yet:

DOM is the best mode for competitive play, as previously said. CTF is not the best choice because spawns are based on where your team's flag is, which is pretty broken. KOTH is a good game mode (I personally like it) but it relies too much on where you spawn. Sometimes, if you get lucky, you spawn right on the where the first point is.

EDIT : I don't know if you TWL guys know this, but you kinda messed up the spelling for Retribtion (you made it Retrobution).

Sweet I was hoping DOM was the prefered game type. We will work on the rules soon.

This is being fixed shortly.

Sweet. The reason why DOM is best suited for comp. play is because on our map rotation, the points are fairly evenly spaced out. CTF can be considered when spawns are affixed to certain areas

I also think siege *might* be a viable option when it comes out (assuming there are enough maps supporting it). The escort kinda reminds me of some old Enemy Territory style objectives

6v6 DOM is currently the best option though.

To be honest, 4v4 has no place in this game. The maps are too big for 4v4, and there is a VERY small chance for error when you only have 4 people defending 2 or 3 points.

Domination 5v5 would be ideal for true competitive play.

With 6v6 sites are cluttered and offensive pushes are zerged. It makes the combat for both offense snd defense awkward at times.

Would we consider CTF if the spawns were patched/fixed? Obviously, the map pool could be different, but I think CTF would be a great game mode, and there really aren't many competitive FPS games that use that game mode, they all use Domination. CTF would be really nice.

CTF would open more maps for competitive, and could open up different player selection. 4v4 is definitely too small for domination, but it might not be for CTF. 5v5 is certainly more plausible in CTF.

Absolutely. It's just it's way too broken right now. The enemy team can spawn directly on your flag. It creates a ugly cycle of you trying to cap a flag only to see your opponents spawn on your flag and be waiting for you as you go in to cap.

4v4 wouldn't be quite as viable for CTF. If one person dies, covering your own flag is much harder since you always need multiple people to run the flag since the flag runner can't sprint.

@Sean: Koth is just a nade spam fest where spawns determine who win. Most of the maps favor one team on the first spawn (giving them an easy first cap) and spawns often mean that repelling a single attack on a hill will win you that hill.

CTF if it's fixed.

Hopefully Siege will have some potential.

Agreed. I'm hoping siege will be the SW format this game needs at the moment.

I love how active these threads are. Very nice to see people desiring competitive gaming for BL:R this much, along with how I haven't gotten flamed yet. xD

I haven't really heard much about Siege yet, What's it like? Is it kinda like Search and Destroy with spawning, or completely different?

And yeah, Even when I play random pub games of CTF, I often find that the spawns have been completely flipped, especially on Vertigo (The one on top of the buildings, sorry if I got the map name wrong.) Alpha team will sometimes spawn near the one capture point in Domination, the one that isn't a CTF base. It really frustrates me because I'm a defender, and when I don't even spawn remotely near my flag, I need to make an epic journey back to my base, hoping to stay alive along the way, just so that I can defend a point that I should have spawned near.

Siege is BLR's take on payload/escort. The attacking team escorts a spider tank through multiple check points that need to be hacked. The defending team attacks the spider tank (which needs to be repaired to start moving again, it also has a mini gun mounted on it) and tries to prevent the check points from being hacked.

Guys keep it coming, I am loving the discussion.

Yea I assumed that KotH wouldn't be great. Seems spawns really need to be fixed.

I will post this in the rules as well BUT with only a couple maps that work wouldn't Best of 3 rounds on 1 map work for DOMINATION? Switching sides & Team with the better ticket count gets side choice for round 3

This is definitely the fairest option, and I think that with the average time per game, it would still be well and interesting for spectators, as long as the casters can keep it interesting, and the maps are good enough.

There are maps in history for different FPS games, where the exact same thing happens at the beginning of each round because any other method of beginning is simply outclassed and beaten. I don't know if this is the case for these maps, but I would hope that it isn't.
