So why support NBF's proposed anarchism? this nation has never lived in a pure anarchist model or even a minarchist model which i prefer.
Minarchist with or without taxation?

Uhm, ever hear of manifest destiny and the wild west? That's about as minimal of a government as you can achieve.

I guess we could learn a lot from the Wild West.

Minimalist taxes..........
People bitch about us being broke and not paying enough taxes.......but what they fail to understand is that 90+ % of the taxes we do pay, already, are being squandered, diverted, and siphoned to shit that nobody can either account for.......or towards shit that nobody would ever fucking agree with.

The only major violence out west was the republican war on the Indians for the benefit of the railroads.
If you look at it, the wild west wasn't really all that wild.

Yes and no. It wasn't as violent as people originally assumed, but the population out west was still something like 90% men in a lot of places, and at that point all they could really do (aside from work) was drink, gamble, steal, and get into (gun)fights. A lot of them died from things like scurvy too because men weren't taught even the basics about taking care of themselves in that day and age.
All in all, it may not have been as bad as people originally thought, but it was still a pretty shitty place by most peoples standards and hardly makes for a convincing argument in favor of libertarianism. Not to mention that it's impossible to attain the low levels of population density required for things to "work" like they did in the west these days without killing off a shit ton of people. There's simply too many of us now to even attempt to live like that.
Your ideology has no practical uses and at best it leads to a society most people wouldn't actually want. Post edited by William T. Sherman at 7/17/2012 9:25:04 AM

I'm not using the "wild west" as an example of my ideology. You injected it into the discussion as a completely lawless civilization that was rampant with violence. I merely pointed out that that wasn't totally true. I've said nothing else about it.

I didn't say it was completely lawless, I said that the wild west is a good indicator of how a libertarian society would look and the closest that you can reasonably get to achieving your ideals concerning no central authority.
Now I'm also saying that a libertarian society would suck balls.

Lucky for you, you will never have to live in a Libertarian society.
There are way too many well intended social Democrats and not well intentioned Fascist Republicans for that to ever happen.
As our population grows the inevitable outcome is more laws, bigger government, far less liberty, and a larger orchestrated effort to construct one world governance.
Soon enough, every society will look just like China.....dissenters will be quickly uprooted and weeded from society, the material we read/see will all be completely censored, our individual actions/desires will be controlled and predetermined for us and most of humanity will marvel at such revelation.
The good news is that this country is heading in only one specific direction very quikcly..........and it isn't towards the Wild West.......but the far more draconian Far East.
So let the good times commence.......Earth +15-30 Billion here we come.
No more worrying about dying from scurvy or dysentery.......just the plague and widespread famine. Post edited by Mockery at 7/17/2012 1:07:47 PM

Yep. That book sucked. 1984 was far better written and far scarier.
Oh, and V for Vendetta was way better than both of them.
My favorite part:
Oh, and while we are on the topic of sci-fi/political fiction, I have to give many props to Atlas Shrugged. It's a long beast to get through, but it really makes you think.

Perhaps this insight will give you a better understanding of why I find the left far more despicable and revolting than the [theocratic] right.

Minarchist with or without taxation? sales tax only
How is a sales tax different from an income tax?

It's a consumption tax instead of a direct tax.
In other words, a sales tax taxes you for what you consume. An income tax taxes you for what you produce.
