I know far more friends who are still married than divorced... but maybe that's just because I'm happily married with kids, minivan, and NO MORTGAGE!!! (woohoo!)

I was engaged for 3 years and my ex fiance had 2 sons so I got to see the whole domestic thing first hand. I hated it. It was too much work, compromising and other bullshit. I also did not like some of her friends and the feeling was mutual. Also, at the time I had a lower paying job than I do now and her family looked down on me so I hated to spend time with them. Her mothers side are all Jewish and her Aunt lived in a very nice house and were just fake fuckers.
After a long days work and having to deal with schmucks, the last thing I wanted to do was spend my time off or holidays with more schmucks.

Im happy now, I make ok money and maybe in the next year or so, I will get promoted to department head and make between 65-70k depending on the volume of the store I work in.

compromising

That is the one word that best describes my aversion to relationships.

I have to compromise 5 days a week in my professional life. Hold down a job, report to a boss, do what they tell me, sit in my little cube, blah, blah, blah. So I refuse to compromise in my personal life. I do what I want, when I want, spend money on the things I want, and nobody can tell me "no".

I doubt I could ever give up that level of freedom after this many years.

I read this book and quit smoking. It's been exactly 1 year since I quit.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Easy-Way-Stop-Smoking/dp/1402718616

Cigs are the hardest fucking thing to quit and I know because I've been hooked on everything except heroin. Ok, unless you have a heroin problem, then it should be easy. Just replace everywhere it talks about smoking with drinking.

Cig = drink
smoking = drinking

etc...

I read the book once and thought about it for a while. Read it again and did exactly what the book said to do.

It's a good book that can apply to many things in our lives.

I have about two beers every year. I don't even think I drank last year. Maybe I'm lucky that it just doesn't interest me as much as other things.

Good luck if you do plan on quitting.
