Saw it today, and I really wanted to like it, but...

I dunno, it just didn't do it for me. It took way too long to get going, the characters weren't at all interesting or developed (except for the robot), and I was very disappointed at the Weyland character.

To me, Weyland-Yutani was almost a character unto itself in the first couple Alien movies, and especially in Aliens. When Mr. Weyland himself made an appearance in this movie, I expected corporate evil personified, and instead I got a geriatric who should be in a nursing home.

The storyline felt hokey, too. The only "wow" factor for me *** SPOILER *** was when the space jockey climbed into the pilot's chair, which was a terrific reference back to Alien.

Anybody else here seen it? What did you think?

The consensus seems to be amazing cinematography and sets, cg, etc. while the story is mediocre. Like typical Ridley Scott fashion it needs a directos cut to make it good.

Did you see this in 3d ??

I'm going tomorrow, but the show we want to see won't be in 3d, unless I wait till the evening....

All my friends said this is the best 3d film outside of avatar. It was planned 3d so not post production bullshit.

I saw it in 3D, but I didn't feel the 3D added much to it. For me, the experience would have been the same seeing it in 2D.

Saw it in iMax 3D... Hate 3D but the movie was awesome. Not ony visually stunning but great story line. If you want character development go see a different genre. Plus, the chick who got preggo had good development in my opinion. She went from a do-gooder, reserved scientist to badass by the end.

*SPOILER*

I saw it in 2D and I couldn't imagine where the 3D would add something extra except for the scene where David looks at the giant map in the room where the Space Jockeys are in cryogenic sleep. This movie sucks balls and i'm not even an Alien fan. They try to serve the Alien fans a little at the end but it's pathetic.

I read a story synopsis a while ago and said 'umm... this is likely going to be a letdown'.

I really enjoyed the movie but I left a bit perplexed. I love the Alien films and wanted to love this one but there's just too many questions left open that I feel robbed by Ridley Scott

I watched a cam copy and thought it was alright, but Aliens (Alien II) with space marines still takes the cake, imo.

I haven't watched an Alien movie in years and barely remember the story line. Do I need to go back and re watch them before seeing this to understand all of it?

No. You could relate to some things probably, but you won't miss any big things.

I'm going to see this tonight. I also haven't seen the any of the Alien movies since I was too young to really get them, if I like this one I might watch them all again this weekend.

The guy I'm going with saw it over the weekend and wants to see it again, I have another friend who has already seen it and also wants to go see it again. They're both pretty picky when it comes to movies so I'm curious about it.

Going to the IMAX, I guess it's in 3D.

Fuck, go see it. Preferably in an IMAX. I thought it was great, pretty intense. You really don't need to know shit about the Alien movies to like it.

Don't pick it apart and just sit back and be entertained with that eye and eargasm of a movie.

You guys were right. It's a really mediocre attempt at a profound story.

Visually, it's one of the best movies I've seen in a few years.

The acting was fine. The robot was cast perfectly, he just had nowhere to go because of the script. I don't regret paying for 3D, which is rare enough in itself.

I can't think of many movies that have actually gotten a good review from you uppity snobs, minus your nerdgasms over comic book films.

I thought this movie was great. It was fun, pretty, and stupid enough to not require much thought. I'm glad that some of Alien series was a little more hashed out.

My only complaint is what I consider to be a chronological plothole. If the first Alien was created around 2083, how did ancient Predators fight ancient Aliens, as depicted in the Alien versus Predator movies.

Say what now? Who's talking about the first Alien anywhere in that movie?
And why are you bringing some crappy spin-off into this thing. It is even worse then Prometheus.
If I want to watch something without much thought, i'll go watch some paint dry.

Comic book movies. Spiderman 2, Iron Man, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, X-men 2. Forget everything else, it's more of the same crap that we get enough already.
