Anyone? I have glasses for far away - car, tv etc. Now I'm going out to a sort of festival and don't want to look like a dick with glasses just a dick without glasses and bought for the first time some contact lenses to "test" it out.
Omfg I have them in for almost 2 hours now and they are more or less killing me, feels my eyes are irritated big time while when I look in the mirror they don't seem red or anything.
I have problems watching TV and typing this post right now, everything seems to be unclear, if I go outside its awesome no problems at all.
I need to go out in a hour or so so I just got a beer because I simple don't know to use them today or take them out.
So anybody else experience first time contact lenses?

When you first start out wearing contact lenses, you must ease into usage. Try a few hours per day, and slowly increase usage time.
I much prefer contact lenses to glasses as I do not have to worry about fogging up, among other annoyances.
What type do you have?

If I recall correctly L=-1 and R=-1.5
I understand to build it up but is it normal that close range is now akward and with my glasses and without not. _______________________________________________________

Are they your real prescription, or are they just a trial pair until yours are mailed to the optometrist?
I meant what type as in the company, whether they are for astigmatism or not, etc.

This is just a pair for 10 dollar or something max, I want to test is out and then go to my local optometrist where I have my glasses from.
And what type etc I really don't know they just come from a grocery shop. Post edited by -Napir^ at 8/4/2012 3:02:38 PM

I tried contacts for a while, but I could never really get good enough at putting them in to make it practical, sometimes it would take a half an hour to get the damn things in right. I had the soft kind that would always want to go inside-out against your finger instead of sticking to your eyeball like its supposed to. They were very uncomfortable too.

Well, if you paid whatever just to try something, you'll get what you pay for. The optometrist will do their job in assuring you can see at all levels. I can see close and afar with my contacts in.

You are defiantly right in that but I didn't want to burn money if I don't know if I will/can use it.
Must say it goes better now then a couple of hours before so I 'll try it tomorrow again and go to the optometrist upcoming week.
G2g now to the party with my contacts in -fingers crossed lol _______________________________________________________

They will feel much better once you get the right ones. The ones I wear now were the second trial pair.
Also, you will adjust to the whole taking them out and putting them in after a few days.

Napir, they are not supposed to burn or irritate your eyes. Take them out asap.. If it hurts then that means something is wrong. Don't fuck with your eyes, its easy to do permanent damage or get an infection.
In Holland I know you don't need a prescription to buy lenses. I tried the cheap over the counter lenses and they were pretty bad, very thick so it didn't feel natural and they also irritated my eyes randomly.
Go to your eye doctor and let him/her decide what brand/type/strength you need. Persoanlly I use daily disposable ones, they are more expensive but the most comfortable (paper thin), and I don't need to save them/clean them so convenient too.

yeah... the right fit is important for contact users.
The wrong fit... you know... irritation and shit.... can be really bad. You can scratch your eye, causing a really bad infection of the cornea.
I once scratched up my eyeball wearing old contacts. My eyeball ended up blowing up and I looked like I was on the losing end of a fight... without the black and blue.
Lesson learned.

Good point guys - but like I said I wanted to "TEST" stuff out before burning money.
On the other side I went to that party got wasted as fuck and never felt a thing from the lenses. I did them out wasted as fuck and went to sleep.
Woke up fucked as hell but nada nothing on my eyes so I decided the "TEST" passed so now I go for the "real" ones _______________________________________________________

ive been wearing accuvue one a day for like 15 years now.
they are quite comfortable. once in awhile they can be a pain to put in but really, not so bad.
you'll get used to them. it's psychological. every couple of weeks i wear my glasses to give my eyes a break, but generally i wear these far more than the optometrist recommends. i sleep in them for a week at a time. my prescription hasn't changed in that 15 years either.
i'd wear my glasses more but i really need to wear shades. my eyes are far more comfortable in sunny weather with shades on. it's not just for aesthetics either, just because i look like a sexy motherfucker in aviators. it just feels better. and glasses that double as shades a)usually look stupid and b)dont get darker while driving, since the windshield blocks UV light which triggers that darkening of the lenses. I dunno what kind of work you do, but if you happen to be around anything like gas, chemicals, dust, etc you should be cautious about wearing contacts on the job. Contacts can hold these air-born materials to your eyeball and cause damage.

Exactly.....
And if he works around, or is exposed to, dangerous compounds like dihydrogen monoxide it can cause lethal asphyxiation.
Don't chance it, man, it's best to just not see, or work and stay at home than it is to risk your life so frivolously like this.
eyeball dust, scratching the cornea, is the number one cause of guys marrying ugly woman and increases your likelihood for a terrible life and suicide. Post edited by Mockery at 8/6/2012 8:21:08 PM

Allergies to the various preservatives, etc. are actually very common. You need to switch solutions and try cleaners, rinsing agents, and storage solutions with different chemicals.
Regardless I considered a decade of sticking my fingers and foreign objects on my eyes was about the same risk and cost of getting them lasered. Almost 15 years later, I don't regret it one bit. I have developed enough nearsightedness to consider getting glasses again at the lowest prescription. But I'm strongly considering getting them lasered again.
The thing is healing time goes up exponentially with age. The doctor said, people in their teens can take a few days to a few weeks, 20's can take a few weeks to a few months, 30's a few months to a year, and pretty long after that. So my age is the only reason I'm hesitating on getting a touch up. Post edited by Stryk at 8/7/2012 5:37:09 AM

so you got lasered and might need it again?
i thought about getting that surgery. wasn't sure, but also it was cost prohibitive

I reasoned that it was $300 / yr in lenes and crap to support them.
Laser was $3000.00.
Plus no hassle or irritation. At over 10 years of no contacts, I made out financially and the rest was gravy.

I have dry eyes as a result of corrective eye surgery. I would not recommend the surgery to anyone without at least reading up on potential side effects. Cost doesn't matter. If it works, a few thousand dollars for better vision is nothing. I have better vision at the cost of persistent pain.
Of course, contacts can also cause infections and other nasty results in a minority of people. Glasses are safest. I recommend that. Or squinting.
